Sugarettes - a boook by Dr. Scott Olson

Scott is an expert in alternative medicine, a researcher, health adviser, and a frequent writer on the DermaHarmony website. He attended the National School of Naturopathic Medicine and earned a degree in Naturopathic Medicine (ND) which qualifies him to practice as a primary care physician in many states. NDs are doctors who are trained similarly to medical doctors, but who have an entirely different approach to health and healing that recognizes the self-healing potential inside all of us.

Sugarettes is a book by Dr. Olson that exposes the addictive and harmful qualities of sugar. The large amount of sugar we eat every day goes largely unnoticed by us, nutritionists, and the medical communities that are supposed to advise us on our health.

Amazing as it sound today, cigarettes were once considered to be healthy; we now recognize that smoking damages lungs, heart, and other body systems. Dr. Scott thinks that sugar is at this same crossroad. Today sugar is considered to be okay to include in a healthy diet, but future generations will look back and wonder why we were so naive.

Sugar is addictive in ways similar to cigarettes, alcohol, and even hard drugs. Sugar addiction is every bit as hard to break as those other addictions. Laboratory studies show that the brains of animals addicted to sugar look almost identical to animals addicted to nicotine, alcohol and morphine-like drugs.

Sugar damages our bodies in a very similar way to smoking. One donut is not going to harm you, but a donut every day just might. Sugar is directly harmful to the very blood vessels that carry it throughout our bodies. Eating sugar and foods that act like sugar is associated with obesity, diabetes, heart disease and many more illnesses.

Breaking our addiction to sugar and sugar foods is difficult, but a necessary step for anyone who wants to live a long and healthy life.
