ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

The DermaHarmony 5% Benzoyl Peroxide or BPO (non-soap) Cleansing Bar was especially formulated for those with acne. This bar is for use on mild to moderate acne. It may be used in combination with other acne treatments as directed by your doctor. When applied to the skin, benzoyl peroxide (BPO) works by reducing the amount of acne-causing bacteria and by causing the skin to dry and peel. Benzoyl peroxide works well for inflammatory acne, which is characterized by red bumps that contain pus (pustules, papules, cysts, and nodules).

Benzoyl Peroxide - Frequently Asked Questions

At one point there were many BPO soap and cleaning bar brands. The market collapsed between 1995-2010 as washes and liquid cleansers became popular with millennials and zoomers. These products are mostly water and inexpensive fillers. Bars are making a comeback because they're more ecologically sustainable!

This is a pure syndet (a blended word made by combining the words “synthetic” and “detergent”) bar. Our competitors make a hybrid bar which is part syndet and part glycerin and soap derived from beef fat (e.g. sodium tallowate). Our DermaHarmony plant-based syndet bar is vegan and soap-free. It's the reason our bar costs a little bit more. Syndet is more expensive than soap. You can expect DermaHarmony BPO bars to be more gentle and skin-friendly. In addition, the DermaHarmony BPO bars have a 'very hungry oil grabbing end' to the cleansing molecule. They're unique!

A higher percentage BPO is not necessarily more effective. If you find that our 5% BPO bar is not working then step-up to our 10% BPO bar.

BAR SIZE

4 OZ (113 G) - 2.6" x 2.6" x 1" Square - Single Bar Per Box

DIRECTIONS

For best results use daily. Work-up a lather using warm water and gently massage into problem areas. Cleansing solution should stay in contact with skin for at least 60-90 seconds. Then rinse thoroughly and pat dry. Use at least twice a week on affected areas in place of your regular soap or as directed by a doctor. If bothersome dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application to once a day or every other day. If desired, follow cleansing with the moisturizer of your choosing.

WARNINGS

This product is not for use on broken skin or for internal use. In case of incidental ingestion, contact a physician or poison control center immediately. Rinse with water if solution comes into contact with eyes.

BPO will bleach stain clothing and towels - use caution. It leaves funky orange stains on nearly everything it touches. Wash your hands well with soap and water after each application. Rinse your face and body extremely well before toweling off to prevent staining of fabrics.

Test our BPO cleanser on a small spot of skin for a few days in a 'patch test' to make sure that your skill will tolerate the BPO cleanser. Apply somewhere hidden in case a reaction occurs or you cannot tolerate BPO. If the test goes okay, then broaden use.

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS

5% Benzoyl Peroxide

INGREDIENTS

Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate (SCI): Known as Baby Foam due to its exceptional mildness, SCI raw material is a surfactant that is comprised of a type of sulphonic acid called Isethionic Acid as well as the sodium salt ester from Coconut Oil.

Stearic Acid: A vegetable derived waxy substance used as a thickening agent in shampoo bars.

Coconut Fatty Acid: A surfactant, cleansing agent, emulsifier and a foam booster.

Sodium Isethionate: An organic salt isethionic acid that was discovered in 1833. It is used as an organosulfur compound. It lowers the pH while maintaining a high level of detergency and lather.

Water

Coco Glucoside: A natural, gentle, and environmentally-friendly cleansing agent and surfactant (a word that is the shortened version of the term “Surface Active Agent”) sourced from coconuts. Sufactants prompt oil and water to combine, thereby making it easier for oily residue found on the hair to attach to syndet (synthetic detergent) and water, leaving the hair cleansed of any grease without stripping away its natural oils.

Cetearyl Alcohol & Ceteareth-20: Emulgade 1000 Ni by BASF - a vegetable based emulsifying wax.

Lactic Acid: An Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA used to gently exfoliate the skin, lighten dark spots, and improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles.

Iron Oxides: The 5% bar contains natural iron oxides which gives the bar an orange appearance (so that customers that use both the 10% and the 5% can differentiate between the bars).

We DO NOT use these ingredients used by our competitors:

We don't use Sodium Tallowate (a combination of tallow—a fat that is derived from the fatty tissue of horses, sheep, or cattle—and lye).

We' don't use Ethylene/VA Copolymer or Ethylene-vinyl Acetate Copolymer - 15% Vinyl Acetate (a red-flagged micro-plastic).

We don't use Cocamidopropyl Betaine (a highly restricted surfactant with irritation and allergic contact dermatitis reactions and immunotoxicity concerns).

STORAGE

Store in a cool dry place between 59° - 86° F (15° - 30° C).  Benzoyl peroxide denatures at room temperature - it will begin to break down once exposed to air, heat, and moisture. Use within 12 months of purchase. Unopened product is good for two years from date of manufacture if bars have been stored in a controlled environment.
