How Skin Care Works

We want to provide you with a foundation of support that will enhance your body's own ability to function optimally. Through the DermaHarmony line of nutritional support, systemic cleansing and topical skin treatments, we encourage chronic skin condition sufferers to support better health and skin naturally, from the inside!

"Pharmaceutical-grade nutrients," "systemic inflammation," "the stress response," "pH-balancing diet," and "leaky gut" are hot topics. These concepts are becoming more common today in integrative medicine, an approach that more appropriately addresses the root causes of numerous skin conditions and ailments affecting our overall health, including psoriasis, eczema, seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, and acne.

All this exciting information leaves many individuals asking "Where do I start?" and "Which approach is best for me?" We want to take the guess work out and devise for you a support plan that is manageable and easily followed at home! We have formulated our Skin-Plaque Solution™ line of topical skin treatments, DermaEssentials™, DermaHarmony D-3™ support, and the DermaDetox™ cleanse for just this purpose.

Key steps to supporting skin health

1) Potent nutrient support to keep up with the demands placed on your body. Use our DermaEssentials™ daily and DermaHarmony D-3™ as needed.

Step one—potent nutrient support

Remember that our skin is the largest gland of our body, and it has a crucial role to play in protection and elimination. Whenever our skin is in a state of inflammation or repair, it requires an enormous amount of resources to heal. This is true of most sicknesses and ailments. Skin rejuvenation requires extra support. Our DermaEssentials™ product is intended to provide you with the additional nutrients you may need. Often you cannot get enough nutrients from foods alone to keep up with your daily bodily demands, especially when battling with psoriasis or other skin ailments.

Step two—digestive health and detox

Several renowned naturopathic and chiropractic doctors have identified multiple internal factors that can play a role in psoriasis, such as poor digestion of proteins, particular nutrient deficiencies, food and alcohol sensitivities, lack of fiber, slow peristalsis, systemic pH imbalance, fecal toxin overload and re-absorption, and inflammation.

Many of us have a liver that is overburdened with toxins and insufficiently supported to unload these toxins from our system. We can then develop a weakened, unhealthy intestinal lining that is unable to filter appropriately, allowing fecal toxins to be reabsorbed and re-circulated. Popular dietary healing guides in the past were considered by many as too involved and unrealistic for long-term use. In conjunction with our programs, we offer a healing skin dietary guide written by registered dietician and nutritionist Deirdre Earls, who used healthy foods to heal her own psoriasis! This new, user-friendly dietary guide contains realistic food choices for busy active people! The author has done the work of compiling lists for how to shop and easily prepare the most beneficial foods, to help promote healing of skin ailments like psoriasis—from within!

Step four—stress management and sleep

How we live day today and how well we sleep have a tremendous impact on our immune health, mental health, and ultimately the function of our entire system. Our skin is the largest organ of our bodies, so of course there is a connection with stress and our skin health. Almost all skin condition sufferers will tell you that things are worse when they are not sleeping and when under more stress, but few make the connection between how much better their skin is and how much better they feel overall when stress is well managed. Except what we notice on vacation, of course! So how do we find the balance, fine-tuning our stress levels somewhere between high-gear and vacation mode? It usually takes awareness and discipline, as well as a plan of action—and DermaHarmony can help!

Our Nurse Practitioner highly recommends that you start with a self-inventory. Compile a list of things that stress you in your life daily and periodically. Then jot down a list of things you do for yourself that are relaxing, rejuvenating, and support good sleep daily. If your lists are not equal in length, it is time for a change!

We often recommend finding joyful relaxing activities you can do for yourself briefly but frequently each day. We also recommend The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, by Martha Davis, et al., an easy workbook to read at your own pace. Oftentimes, more prolonged relaxation is needed in the hour or two before bedtime to support an ideal sleep cycle, sometimes referred to as sleep hygiene. For help with this, we suggest you start with the book Say Good-Night to Insomnia: The Six-Week, Drug-Free Program Developed At Harvard Medical School, by Gregg Jacobs and Herbert Benson. Stress management and good sleep are inherently linked to regular exercise. Being active is a healthy first step. Even walking ten minutes a day and taking the stairs at work can make a noticeable difference. Finding what you love for more attentive exercise a few days a week is the next step, and with a positive mind-set, you will find yourself achieving more than you anticipated! The medical debate about the impact of stress on our overall health has pretty much concluded that stress is bad—so do something about it for your health and well-being. It will support radiant skin!

Step five—soothing topical skin treatments

If you give proper attention to steps 1 through 4, you'll only need to use topical treatments during the times when you have slipped out of balance.

Our Skin-Plaque Solution™Gel is a topical exfoliant specifically formulated to eliminate the itching, flaking, and scaling of psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. The active ingredient is salicylic acid, which the FDA recognizes as safe and effective for the treatment of psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis. Simply apply in the evening, then wash off in the morning with a warm bath or shower.

Our Skin-Plaque Solution™ Spray is based on the specific properties of zinc pyrithione (ZnP). Zinc pyrithione acts as an antifungal and antibacterial agent, and exerts a high antibacterial and anti-fungal action against a series of pathogenic microorganisms (mainly Streptococcus and Staphylococcus.)
