Our factory 2nd bars are fully functional products that are new and have never been outside of our control.  Issues include:

  • Cosmetic defects (scratches, marks, dents, cracks, holes, bubbles, malformed, poorly molded or stamped, conveyer marked, poorly formed edges, and heavily spotted sulfur bars)
  • Bars that are smaller or that are not the same dimensions as our first quality bars ( e.g. cracked or half bars - note: you'll always receive the published weight or volume which means that you might get 2 bars with a total weigh of 5.5 oz instead of 1 bar at 4 oz)
  • Packaging defects (e.g. packaging alignment problems, heat seal issues, torn wrapper, crushed/dented box).
  • Bulk packed without the retail wrapper or packaging.  Eco packed with white wrapper.

Quantity is very limited.

Smell so bad

This product smell so much like
fuel oil, that I can not stand to
use it.

Something should be done about
changing the obnoxious odor.

This is medicated OTC drug liquid pyrithione zinc soap. The smell is tea tree oil which is at a concentration of 1%. Tea tree oil is a natural essential oil that comes from the leaves of the Melaleuca alternifolia tree (native to Australia). The chemical properties of tea tree oil help to kill bacteria, fungus, and mites. It can also reduce allergic skin reactions by decreasing swelling. People use tea tree oil for acne, toenail fungus, and athlete's foot. It's also used for dandruff, lice, bad breath, and other conditions. It's been used in herbal medicine for over 100 years. The tea tree oil in this product helps skin conditions. That's the only reason that it is an ingredient. Removing the tea tree oil would reduce the efficacy of the soap.

Great value! But soap =/= shampoo 😂

I’ve loved the shampoo bars in the past and I didn’t read closely enough on the second — I ordered soap thinking it was shampoo bars. I used it twice as shampoo before I realized. Soap is not good shampoo! I’ll keep using the soap and order more shampoo bars.

We'd like to add a bit more to the concept that soap is not shampoo. Most modern shampoo contains no soap (with the exception of natural brand such as J.R. Liggett's or Grace of Much which is a hybrid). That's because soap performs poorly in hard water (water with high concentrations of calcium and magnesium ions). About 50% of the water in the USA is hard water of some degree. Hard water makes it difficult to use soap as shampoo because the minerals in hard water react with soap to form soap scum. It's the water which causes problems.

We have tens of thousands of customers that use our bar soap as shampoo. These customer have soft water OR they treat with a apple cider vinegar rinse after using the soap (sort of like conditioner except it fixes the soap scum and pH balance deficiencies). Modern shampoo was first introduced in the 1930s with Drene, the first shampoo to use synthetic surfactants instead of soap. Prior to 1930, going back thousands of year, folks used soap as shampoo.

There's a growing trend at the moment of natural soap as a replacement for chemical-filled shampoos.
