ABOUT THIS PRODUCT

Individual results may vary.

A targeted acne treatment in the form you already know — bar soap.

DermaHarmony 10% Sulfur Bar Soap is an over-the-counter acne medication formulated with the maximum monograph-permitted concentration of sulfur (10%). Sulfur is generally recognized as safe and effective (GRASE) by the FDA for the treatment of acne.

This acne bar soap penetrates pores to reduce the number of acne blemishes, acne pimples, blackheads, and whiteheads — and allows skin to heal. With consistent daily use, it helps prevent new acne blemishes from forming. Thousands of customers use DermaHarmony sulfur soap as an affordable OTC acne treatment — with a cleaner ingredient list, no parabens, and no fragrance.

Why sulfur?

Sulfur has been used in skincare for centuries. As an acne treatment, it works by helping to dry and clear acne blemishes while being gentle enough for sensitive skin and daily use on both the face and body. Unlike some acne treatments that can be harsh or irritating, sulfur-based soaps are well-suited for people who want effective pore-level cleansing in a simple, rinse-off routine.

Many people find sulfur to be a better fit for their skin than benzoyl peroxide, which can bleach fabrics and cause more pronounced dryness or irritation. Sulfur offers a gentler approach for those with reactive or easily irritated skin.

What Makes This Bar Different?

  • Maximum OTC strength. 10% sulfur — the highest concentration permitted under the FDA acne drug monograph. You will not find a stronger sulfur acne soap over the counter.
  • Clean, minimal formula. No parabens, no fragrances, no dyes, no sulfates. Just seven inactive ingredients. We kept the formula as clean as possible.
  • Gentle enough for sensitive skin. This bar is noncomedogenic and hypoallergenic — designed not to clog pores or provoke unnecessary irritation. Customers consistently report that it works without the harsh drying or stinging that other acne treatments can cause.
  • Works everywhere acne shows up. Face, back, chest, shoulders — this body acne soap works anywhere you have acne blemishes.
  • Rich, effective lather. The bar produces a creamy lather that spreads easily and rinses clean. A little goes a long way.
  • Long-lasting bar. Each 4 oz bar typically lasts four to six weeks with daily use — a fraction of the cost of prescription sulfur washes.
  • Safe for adults and children. Suitable for daily use by the whole household.
  • Made in the USA. Every bar is manufactured domestically and individually cartoned or wrapped.

Who It's For?

This sulfur acne soap is a good fit if you:

  • Have mild to moderate acne — pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, or blemishes on the face or body
  • Want an OTC acne medication with maximum-strength sulfur
  • Are looking for a paraben-free, fragrance-free acne soap with a short ingredient list
  • Have sensitive skin that reacts poorly to benzoyl peroxide or other harsh acne treatments and medications
  • Deal with back acne, chest acne, or shoulder breakouts and want a soap that does double duty
  • Are switching from a prescription sulfur wash and want an OTC sulfur acne soap that doesn't require a prescription
  • Prefer a straightforward cleansing routine — no multi-step regimens required

How Sulfur Compares to Other Acne Ingredients

Not sure whether sulfur is the right acne-fighting ingredient for your skin? Here's a quick comparison.

Sulfur vs. Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is widely used for moderate to severe inflammatory acne. It can be very effective but is also known for bleaching towels and clothing, and for causing significant dryness, redness, and peeling — especially in people with sensitive skin. Sulfur takes a gentler approach. It dries and clears acne blemishes without the bleaching risk, and many people with sensitive or reactive skin find it easier to tolerate.

Sulfur vs. Salicylic Acid

Salicylic acid is a popular choice for blackheads and whiteheads. It works by exfoliating inside the pore. Sulfur also helps clear pores, but with added drying action on excess oil. Some people use both — DermaHarmony also makes a Sulfur & Salicylic Acid Bar Soap for those who want both ingredients in a single bar.

Both benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid can be effective. The right choice depends on your skin type, sensitivity, and the type of acne you're dealing with. If you've found other treatments too harsh, sulfur is often worth trying.

A Note on the Scent

Sulfur has a distinctive natural smell — there's no way around it. That said, the overwhelming majority of our customers describe this bar's scent as mild, bearable, and far less intense than prescription sulfur washes or other sulfur soaps on the market. The smell does not typically linger on skin after rinsing, especially once you apply moisturizer or your other daily products. A small number of people are more sensitive to the scent — if you're concerned, start by using the bar on a small area to see how the smell sits with you.

A Note on Dryness

Sulfur is a drying ingredient by nature — that's part of how it works to clear acne blemishes. Most customers find this bar drying but manageable, especially when followed with a good moisturizer. We recommend starting with one application per day and increasing frequency gradually. If you experience bothersome dryness, scale back to every other day. The key is to always follow up with a moisturizer that works for your skin.

DIRECTIONS

For best results, use daily — or as directed by your doctor.

  1. Wet your skin with warm water.
  2. Work the bar into a lather and gently massage onto affected areas.
  3. Leave the lather in contact with skin for at least 30 seconds.
  4. Rinse thoroughly.

Use on affected skin in place of your regular soap.

Getting started: Because some users experience dryness when beginning a sulfur acne soap, start with one application per day and gradually increase frequency. You may increase to two or three times daily if needed, or as directed by a doctor. If bothersome dryness or peeling occurs, reduce application to once a day or every other day. Follow cleansing with the moisturizer of your choosing.

Sensitivity test for new users: Apply the product sparingly to one or two small affected areas during the first 3 days. If no discomfort occurs, follow the directions above.

WARNINGS

For external use only.

Do not use on:

  • Broken skin
  • Large areas of the skin

When using this product:

  • Apply only to areas with acne.
  • Skin irritation and dryness is more likely to occur if you use another topical acne medication at the same time. If irritation occurs, only use one topical acne medication at a time.

Stop use and ask a doctor if skin irritation occurs or gets worse.

Keep out of reach of children. If swallowed, get medical help or contact a Poison Control Center right away. In case of accidental ingestion, contact a physician or Poison Control Center immediately.

Additional note: Sulfur will tarnish (blacken) silver jewelry. Remove silver rings, bracelets, and necklaces before use.
